Electric Bass Setup Lesson

Learning how to properly set up an electric bass is an essential skill for any musician who wants a comfortable, precise, and reliable instrument—whether in the studio, rehearsal, or on stage.

In this comprehensive bass setup course, you will learn to understand, adjust, and optimize your instrument through the hands-on experience of a professional musician who has worked with instruments in real-world international touring conditions.

I am Léo Chazallet, professional bassist and artist for Fender, Benevolent Basses, Saito Guitars, Rheingold-Music, and Optima Strings.

Over my career, I have played more than 2,000 different basses and toured worldwide, often using backline instruments I only saw minutes before going on stage. I also maintain a personal collection of perfectly set-up basses, optimized for high-performance playing.

This experience has allowed me to develop a crucial skill: diagnosing and setting up a bass quickly to make it perfectly playable in any situation.

The Difference Between Theoretical and Professional Setup

Much of the information available online—or even from some luthiers—relies on standardized theoretical setups.

While these setups may be technically correct, they often don’t take into account the real-world demands of a bassist: hand dynamics, musical style, or stage conditions.

In this course, you will learn:

  • The fundamental technical setups
  • How to adapt these setups for real musical contexts

The difference is significant: an instrument can be “correct on paper” but still feel uncomfortable or ineffective in a real playing situation.

Here, you will discover the methods used by professional touring bassists, where each instrument must be reliable, quick to adjust, and immediately performance-ready.
